Hospice of the Bluegrass has significantly expanded its facilities and moved to a new location in Frankfort. Opened on April 1, the combined 21,000 square feet of space includes the Green-Meyer Center at 643 and the adjacent Community Building at 663 Teton Trail. The new site will enhance services provided by Hospice to its four-county service area that includes Anderson, Franklin, Owen and Woodford counties.

The campus includes two buildings. The Green-Meyer Center houses clinical and administrative staff and is the centralized communication hub for the eleven teams who serve patients and their families. Only steps away is the Community Building which houses the community outreach arm of Hospice.

 About Us

Hospice of the Bluegrass, Frankfort Office provides end-of-life care to residents in Anderson, Franklin, Owen and Woodford counties. We care for patients at home, in long term care facilities, and within the hospital. In most cases a team member can respond within 24 hours of referral to begin the admission process. How We Work

At Hospice of the Bluegrass, we work as an interdisciplinary team. This team is comprised of the patient’s physician, a volunteer medical director, nurse, social worker, chaplain, bereavement counselor, home care aide, volunteer, and most importantly the patient.

Who Pays for Hospice?

While Medicare, Medicaid and most private insurance carriers reimburse for Hospice services, some patients have no insurance. Hospice of the Bluegrass provides care regardless of insurance status, and at essentially no out-of-pocket charge to the patient or family. In 2010, Hospice of the Bluegrass provided $1,115,000 in un-reimbursed care. Generous donations, memorial gifts and in-kind contributions make this possible.

Hospice Care Center

As part of our commitment to end-of-life care, Hospice of the Bluegrass established the Hospice Care Center, a 17-bed inpatient unit housed within St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington to address the unique medical needs that may be best provided for in a hospital setting.

Volunteer Opportunities

These include, but are not limited to patient care, administrative/office tasks and special events. Hospice of the Bluegrass sponsors a variety of programs, training sessions and fund-raising activities throughout the year. For more information about volunteer opportunities and special events, contact Shellie Brown or visit our calendar and news page.
