Palliative Care
Leadership Center

The Palliative Care Center of the Bluegrass, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hospice of the Bluegrass is one of nine premier palliative care programs in the country initially funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to provide site visits, training, and technical assistance to the rapidly growing number of hospices, hospitals, and other organizations seeking to start or strengthen their own palliative care programs. Current programing is funded by the JEHT Foundation, Catholic Health Initiatives and the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization's Caring Connections.

In addition to standard PCLC curriculum elements, Bluegrass offers site visitors:

  • Access to two distinct hospice-led hospital-based palliative care programs, an academic medical center collaboration, as well as long-term care and outpatient programs
  • Insight into cultivating strong relationships between hospices and local hospitals
  • Tips on serving a largely rural population
  • Financial and logistical information on expanding hospice services into palliative care
  • Palliative care billing information for hospices and physician practices
  • Information on staffing hospital-based palliative care programs using both hospice and hospital resources
  • A concrete plan of action for hospices starting or strengthening a hospital-based palliative care program
  • The knowledge that comes with extensive experience cultivating community-based partnerships
  • A strategic plan for implementing palliative care in long-term care and outpatient settings
